Please call the parish office to register in the parish and before making any plans as to day or time for the Sacrament. See the bulletin for announcement on baptismal classes. Parents and Godparents (Sponsors) are both required to attend classes.
Sponsors represent in a personal way the witness and support of the parish community. To perform the role of sponsor, it is necessary that a person fulfill the conditions stated in the Code of Canon Law #84:
A. Be designated by the one to be baptized or confirmed, by the parents or the one who takes their place or, in their absence, by the pastor or minister and is to have the qualifications and intention of performing this role.
B. Have completed their sixteenth (16) year, unless a different age has been established by the diocesan bishop or it seems to the pastor or minister that an exception is to be made for a just cause.
C. Be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the sacrament of the Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken;
D. Not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared [e.g. if married, marriage must be recognized by the Catholic Church as valid].
E. Not be the father or the mother of the one to be baptized or confirmed.
The sponsor’s function is to take the care that the person confirmed behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the duties of this sacrament. (CCL #892)
